Mrs. Chase brings over 25 years of Christian ministry and educational leadership, and carries a contagious enthusiasm and authentic passion for Christian worldview education. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Kansas State University and a Master’s Degree in Non-Profit Administration and Social Work from the University of Kansas.  Mrs. Chase served as the Director of the Braided Cord Cooperative, which provides educational opportunities and community for home school families in the Greater Binghamton, NY region. Mrs. Chase has taught as an adjunct professor at Davis College in Johnson City, NY, and served on the Board of Trustees at Davis College. She previously worked as a professional counselor for the Christian Counseling Center in Johnson City, NY and served as the Executive Director of the Pregnancy Crisis Center in Wichita, KS.  Mrs. Chase has traveled nationally to speak at Christian education conventions, women’s conferences, marriage retreats, fundraising banquets, Christian colleges and churches. 

Mrs Chase has been married to her husband, David, for 27 years. They are active members of Gracepoint Church in Vestal, NY.  Two of the Chase's daughters have graduated from RCCA, and their two other daughters attend RCCA.  Mrs. Chase's favorite things are: God's Word, laughter, a really good book, basketball, and leading others in encouragement to find their passions and gifts from God - to discover ways they can be the very best in all that they endeavor - on this side of heaven - especially while parenting and teaching children. 

Mrs. Tammy Buck

Executive Assistant to the School Administrator

Mrs. Tammy Buck spent many years working as the Assistant Director and Treasurer of the Braided Cord Cooperative.  Her organizational and leadership skills are an incredible blessing to RCCA.  Her experience in finance and serving as treasurer in Christian ministries and non-profit organizations are wonderful assets in the RCCA school office. 

Mrs. Buck and her husband Jeremy have been married for 18 years and have three children at RCCA.  They attend Calvary's Love Church in Johnson City, NY.

Lisabeth Colton

6th Grade Teacher

M.Ed. Curriculum Design and Mathematics, Concordia University

BS Early Secondary Math Education, Faith Baptist Bible College, SUNY Cortland

 

Mrs. Colton graduated from Concordia University with a Master of Education in Curriculum Design & Instruction and Mathematics.  She holds a Bachelor of Science in Early Secondary Math Education from Faith Baptist Bible College and SUNY Cortland.  Mrs. Colton has been serving as Assistant to the Registrar and Faculty at Davis College. She has coordinated the Davis College "Teacher Prep Emphasis Program" in collaboration with SUNY Oswego.  

 

Mrs. Colton has taught college courses in Mathematics, Mathematics for Elementary, Philosophy of Education, Child Development, and Applied Research and Statistics. She brings with her many years of experience in Learning Management System applications and distance learning. Her authentic passion for Christian community in her classrooms is a gift and blessing to her students. 

 

Prior to her time at Davis College, Mrs. Colton taught 5th grade at Faith Christian School in Sterling, VA. 

 

Mrs. Colton has been married to Dr. Charles Colton for 34 years and they have three grown children.

Bradley Ellis

Athletic Director

MS, Sports Management, Liberty University

BRE, Organizational Leadership, Davis College

 

Mr. Ellis is married to Emily and they have four children.  He graduated from Davis College with a BRE in Organizational Leadership and earned a Masters Degree in Sports Management from Liberty University.  Mr. Eillis served as the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach and Interim Athletic Director at Davis College. He is the Founder and Commissioner of the Southern Tier Christian Basketball League.  He is the former Program Director and Head Coach for the Binghamton Blaze.  He has officiated over 150 high school and adult basketball games and has served as an official statistician during the Bible College National Tournaments.   He has organized over 100 basketball tournaments, and was a certified high school baseball and softball umpire.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Ellis are members at First Christian Church of Kirkwood where Mr. Ellis serves on the Deacon Board and as the Sunday School Superintendent.  He works full time as an Employment Services Specialist with ACHIEVE in Johnson City, NY.   

Stacy Ernst

3rd Grade and K-12 Music Choir Teacher

​BS, Elementary Education and Theater, Elmira College

Mrs. Stacy Ernst graduated from Elmira College and brings 20 years of experience in teaching elementary and middle school and K-12 music. Mrs. Ernst taught at Corning Christian Academy and area home school educational cooperatives. She also served as the Children's Ministry Coordinator at Calvary Tabernacle Baptist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Ernst and their three children are very involved in their local church, CalTab in Vestal, NY. Mrs. Ernst has spent many years directing musical theaters/dramas.  All three Ernst kids attend RCCA.

LuAnne Ferrill

7th-12th History; Debate; Speech; Senior Class Advisor

​BS Social Studies & Secondary Education, Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania

Mrs. LuAnne Ferrill and her husband Mitch have been married for 32 years.  They are the parents of son, Will (architecture student) and daughter, Anne (RCCA Class of 2019).  

Mrs. Ferrill studied Secondary Education/Social Studies at Lock Haven State College, Binghamton University, and Penn State University.  Her teaching career began at North Schuylkill High School where she taught Social Studies for two years.  She moved back to the local area and worked at IBM for 15 years as a technical writer and editor of manuals and online documentation for an IBM software product.  As part of this job, Mrs. Ferrill both designed and taught courses related to this software.  After a few years as a stay-at-home-mom, Mrs. Ferrill resumed her career at Chestnut Rehabilitation Services, where she where she worked with clients to determine job skills, write resumes, and develop career possibilities.

Mrs. Ferrill currently teaches Sunday School in her local church, and also served as a Youth Group leader.  She is a member of Community Independent Bible Church in Little Meadows, PA.

Kelsey Hallett

2nd Grade

BS Elementary and Early Education, SUNY New Paltz

Miss Kelsey Hallett holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education with a concentration in History (SUNY New Paltz). Prior to joining RCCA, she worked in the New Paltz Central School District and at the Montessori School of New Paltz. She also served as a substitute teacher in the Freeport Public Schools. Miss Hallett's desire is to create a Christ-honoring, fun and engaging learning environment for all of her students, and to teach them what they will need to know in order to grow in life and achieve their God given dreams. She desires to teach students in a variety of ways that focus on their individual learning needs.  

Miss Hallett shares, "I want to be able to talk to my students about God and all the amazing things you can do with God in your heart. I want to be able to talk about God in hopes of bringing them closer to Him."

Miss Hallett loves crafting and doing anything artistic.  She also loves hiking, biking, and spending time with animals. She attends Hope Community Church in Warren Center, PA.  

Melanie Hovancik

1st Grade

BS Elementary Education, SUNY Cortland

 

Mrs Hovancik is married to Rich and they have three children.  She earned a bachelors degree in Elementary Education from SUNY Cortland and worked as an early elementary classroom teacher for the Rochester Central School District for several years.  She served as the Assistant Director at Tutor Time (Vestal), and taught in multiple elementary classrooms for the Braided Cord Cooperative (Vestal).

Mrs Hovancik has a love for teaching reading and literacy.  With her experience in early elementary classroom management, multi-level teaching, and a desire and heart to be an instrument of Jesus Christ in children's lives, she is an wonderful member of the teaching team at RCCA.  The Hovancik family attends Grace Point Church in Vestal, NY.

Ashley Lane

Preschool Teacher

BRE Counseling Concentration, Davis College

Miss Ashley Lane is a graduate of Davis College. She  worked with ages birth to 6th grade at Abide in the Vine Childcare Center in Owego, NY.  Prior to coming to RCCA, Miss Lane served as a substitute teacher with Candor Elementary School. She also taught 5th and 6th grades at North Spencer Christian Academy in Spencer, NY. During the summers, Miss Lane teaches Art at the Spencer Van-Etten Summer Enrichment Camp. One of Miss Lane’s favorite parts of being in the classroom are the “light bulb” moments, when a student finally gets a concept, idea, or a stroke of inspiration!  Miss Lane loves teaching preschool at RCCA and her passion for preschool shines in all that she does each day.   

Christine Lane

7th-12th English; Creative Writing; Student Council Advisor

​BA English & Elementary Education, Houghton College

Mrs. Lane joined the RCCA faculty in 2002 as a sixth grade teacher. This was a return to full-time teaching for her, as she had taken several years away from teaching to be at home with her children. Her prior teaching experience included a year at Northstar Christian Academy in Rochester, NY and two years at Christian Central Academy in Williamsville, NY. After moving back to this area in 1989, Mrs. Lane taught Junior High English and Spanish at RCCA. During the years that she was at home with her children, Mrs. Lane served as a substitute teacher at RCCA and volunteered at Zion Lutheran School in Owego, NY. After her return to RCCA in 2002, she taught sixth grade for four years before moving to her current role as 7th-12th grade English teacher.

Mrs. Lane and her husband, Stephen, have three children who are all graduates of RCCA. They are active members of Straits Corners Baptist Church in Candor, NY. She is passionate about her faith, family, and sharing her love of the written word every day in the classroom.

Mrs. Alyssa Leonard

K-12 PE Teacher, K-6th Music Teacher

BS Human Development & Minor in Music, Binghamton University

MEd, Liberty University

EdD (in process), Liberty University

 

Mrs Leonard graduated from Binghamton University with a BS in Human Development and a Minor in Music.  She earned a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Liberty University, and is projected to complete her EdD in Curriculum and Instruction in May 2022 from Liberty University.  She taught with VIPKid International, and as a K-12 substitute at RCCA and in the Montrose Area and Vestal Central school districts.  She served as the RCCA Jr/Sr high Choir Director in 2005-2006, and continues to provide piano accompaniment for choirs, soloists, churches and other events. 

 

Mrs Leonard has been an avid runner for 15+ years and loves sports. She is a graduate of RCCA and currently serves as the RCCA PTA President and on the School Board of Directors. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard are members at First Baptist Church, Johnson City, NY where Mrs Leonard serves on the worship team and in the children's ministries.  They have three sons.

Denise Maassen

Middle School Math; German I, II; Spanish I, II, III; 7th/8th Grades Class Advisor

Miss Maassen grew up in the Owego, New York area and attended Tioga Center Baptist Church. The Lord led her to Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, where she received her BA and MS degrees.

After college, Miss Maassen taught at West Side Christian Academy in West Palm Beach, Florida for three years before God led her back to New York to take care of her mother. She taught at Tioga Center Christian School and was considered it a privilege to serve in her home church. During these thirty plus years, Miss Maassen was also caregiver for both parents in their latter years.

When Tioga Center Christian School closed in 2012, the Lord directed Miss Maassen to Ross Corners Christian Academy, where she has joyfully taught for the last 10 years.

Leslie Meyers

High School Math Teacher & School Guidance

Mrs. Meyers lives in Binghamton and has two grown sons, a daughter in law, and one grand baby. Her husband, Mark, is also an educator (public school ESL teacher).  Mrs Meyers holds a Bachelor of Science in Education (Math) from SUNY Cortland, a Master of Science in Education (Curriculum Development) from SUNY Cortland, and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Clark Summit University.  Mrs. Meyers brings decades of teaching experience K-12 in mathematics and reading.  Since 2008, she has also served as an educational advocate for Parents Instructing Challenged Children (PICC) with NYS LEAH.  Mrs. Meyers has worked with students in special education, and has experience teaching students in gifted programs.  She works part time in private practice as a Biblical Counselor with Foundations Christian Counseling in Johnson City, NY.  Mr and Mrs Meyers attend Grace Point Church in Vestal, NY.   

Kathy Platz

7th-12th Grade Science, 10th Grade Class Advisor

Mrs. Kathy Platz has been teaching multiple grades for the last 18 years. Prior to that, she worked as an Occupational Therapist. She also spent 12 years working as a Research Technician at Boston University Medical School. She ha also taught at Clear Vision Connection  (Vestal) in the high school science department. She has been a pastor's wife for 24 years.  She has a passion for learning and teaching science from a biblical worldview. She and her husband, Jerry, are active members at Grace Point Church in Vestal, NY.    

Sandra Rising

Kindergarten

​BS in Elementary Education & Bible, Clarks Summit University

Mrs. Rising has been a teacher at Ross Corners Christian Academy since 2002. She graduated from Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Bible. She is married to Pastor David Rising of Bethel Baptist Church in Vestal, NY. Mr. and Mrs Rising have three grown children.

When she was in kindergarten, Mrs. Rising came to know Jesus as her personal Savior. She enjoys teaching in a school where she can teach beginning reading and teach God's Word.

She enjoys reading, gardening, cooking, crocheting, exercising and serving in her local church.

Mariah Smales

K-12 Art Teacher

Miss Mariah Smales lives in Binghamton and has been teaching art for elementary through high school students for the past 3 years. She has taught adult art classes, too!  She is a graduate of Elim Bible Institute & College with an Applied Ministry Certificate in Pastoral Ministry and Associates Degree in Biblical Theology.  Miss Smales also spent most of 2018 as a short term missionary/teacher in Asia.  

She brings an enthusiasm for seeing children and teens grow creatively and spiritually through the expression of art.  Miss Smales' parents and brother are also teachers!  Teaching runs in the Smales' family.

Jill Smith

4th Grade Teacher

BS Music Education, Pensicola Christian College

Mrs Smith grew up here at RCCA. She attended RCCA for PreK through 12th grades.  She went on to Pensacola Christian College in Florida, where she obtained a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Music and History Education. She went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. Mrs Smith has taught many subjects and grade levels at RCCA.  Mrs. Smith and her husband have 3 children. She feels "blessed to have their children attend RCCA where they know the Bible is being taught to them on a daily basis."

Mr. and Mrs. Smith attend First Baptist Church of Newark Valley and are very active in serving in music ministry at church.  They love to garden, tend chickens, and can their own produce, as well as fish as often as they can.

Marie Sorensen

ESL Teacher & Coordinator

Miss Marie Sorensen coordinates the ESL Department at RCCA.  She is also the ESL Program Coordinator for Literacy Volunteers for in Broome & Tioga Counties. She has worked as an adjunct professor at Binghamton University, Utica College and was Associate professor for Namseoul University, Seonghwan, Chungham, Korea. She holds a Juris Doctorate in Law (concentration International students), Masters of Arts in Intercultural Students and BA in Political Science. She also taught at Zion Lutheran School in Owego, NY. 

Kathleen White

5th Grade

1 Year Bible Certificate, Davis College

Mrs White has been a 5th and 6th grade teacher at RCCA since 2004, and prior to joining the staff, she was a home-school mom for 13 years. On December 4, 1980, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and her life was changed forever. All three of Mrs. White's children are graduates of RCCA.  She has been married to her husband, Dan, for 34 years. Mr. and Mrs. White attend Grace Point Church in Vestal, where she directs the VBS and the Wednesday night GPKids Program. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her three grandchildren, reading, writing, scrapbooking and traveling.

Zachary Willis

7th-12th Bible; Head Coach-Varsity Boys Basketball; 11th Grade Class Advisor

​BRE, Pastoral Concentration, Davis College

Mr. Zach Willis holds a Bachelor of Religious Education from Davis College and serves as he Associate Pastor at Faith Christian Church in Kirkwood, NY.  He played intercollegiate Soccer and Basketball and served as team captain multiple years.  Mr. Willis assists with weekly chapel. His heart and passion for discipleship and teaching God's Word is a blessing to our high school students at RCCA!

Ms. Jody Stephens is an invaluable member of the RCCA team! She keeps the buildings clean and in full operation with her "fix it " attitude.  If anything needs doing, she does it!   Ms. Stephens also serves as the Lunchroom Supervisor providing a wonderful hot lunch program for the students at RCCA.
